HHB LogoJuly 2009 HHB started their mission overseas as three platoons each conducting different missions. The platoon’s missions are Command and Control (Battalion Staff Sections) of land side port security, Camp Command (Mayor Cell) of Camp Patriot, and an Area Reaction Force for all of southern Kuwait. The Area Reaction Force covered over 6000 square kilometers of battle space known as SECFOR South. HHB has brought their Midwest mentality with them raising the bar and exceeding Army standards. The Soldiers are continually complimented on how well they are performing their duties! South Dakota can be proud of the 1/147th Field Artillery Battalion. Read the rest of this entry »

Charlie Battery First Time Deployed Soldiers Speak Out What is it like to be deployed for the first time? Eighteen first time deployed Soldiers from Charlie Battery were asked about their experience on their year long deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Quick Reaction Force members from the 1-147 Field Artillery secure the entry to the pier to ensure only required personnel are near the oil spill to ensure safety of everyone during an Oil Spill Response Exercise Dec. 14.Alpha Battery mobilized on 15 April 2009 in support of OIF 9.2, with the combining of 133 Soldiers from 5 different units and a multitude of MOS's. The SECFOR Company was Commanded by CPT Collin Enstad with 1SG Terry Ching serving as Battery First Sergeant. This group of fine men and women created 1 Headquarters Platoon and 3 SECFOR Platoons. Alpha Battery 1st Battalion 147th Field Artillery (MLRS) was called to active duty to perform a nonstandard mission for the Security Force (SECFOR) at Camp Patriot and Kuwait Naval Base (KNB). ARF - KNG MRAP TrainingIn July 2009, Major Faleafine and MSG Odoardi of the 487th FA (Hawaii) escorted Major Koehler, MSG Thyne and SGM Diede to the Samoud military training facility just outside of Kuwait City. There they were introduced to Randy Williams and the staff of MPRI (Military Professional Resource Inc.). The folks at MPRI are part of a contracted group that trains the Kuwaiti Military, and 1/147 FA would be working with them to help train the Kuwait National Guard (KNG) as part of our Host Nation mission. LTC David ChaseHello Everyone, Well it is finally here – the LAST newsletter from Kuwait! As I write this we are in the final phases of our relief in place (RIP). That is the term for the process we go through to train our replacements to take over our mission. The RIP process takes between 2-3 weeks and is very detailed and intensive. The beauty of it is we are about 99% complete. We will have our official Transfer of Authority (TOA) on the 23rd of March. That is when we officially relinquish command and our follow on unit from Florida officially takes command. Read the rest of this entry »
